Ginko Biloba~  The oldest living species on Earth believed to be around for150 million years old.  It was thought to be extinct but was rediscovered in China during the 17th century. A primitive conifer with fan shaped leaves. Grown for its unique look.  This tree grows very slow and is perfect for Bonsai culture.    Japanese Larch  (Larix kaempferi)  

A deciduous conifer tree with with a straight trunk and nice soft needles.  Grown for the weathered looking, rust brown bark.  Form varies from one tree to the next. Foliage turns a brilliant yellow in the fall for a short time but long enough to make a striking appearance.  1 1/2-inch-long upright cones are clustered along the branches, making a terrific display throughout the year. The reddish-brown bark is rugged and furrowed, showing nicely in the winter.

Larch should be grown in rich, well-drained, acidic soil. Keep moist and place in full sun to part shade.  Perfect for Bonsai culture. Hardy outdoors to zone 5.

Cupressus Lusitanica

 

  Mexican Cypress - Also know as Cedar of Goa - An evergreen conifer that grows in a columnar shape with a rich brown bark.  Produces a blue –green leaf color about an 1/8” long with pointed tips. Sow seed in standard potting mix with good ventilation at a moderate temperature. Grow in full sun and keep well drained and water when soil is dry to the touch. 

Makes an excellent plant for collectors of exotic plants for the home or greenhouse environment.  When pruning, refrain from cutting back into older wood.   Also makes an excellent specimen for Bonsai Culture. Native of Mexico to Guatemala.

Oriental Hornbeam

Carpinus  -   A small leafed deciduous tree with small, twig-like branches.  Grown for the pale gray bark, upright trunk and ancient look. Keep pruned for Bonsai culture. Grows to 25 feet if grown as a tree. Small green leaves with twisted branches and stems giving the tree an interesting winter aspect. 

 Striking fruit make this a plant worth considering even though summer foliage is absolutely wonderful and the main reason to consider this plant.  Moderately drought-tolerant. 

Soak seed for 24 hours in luke-warm water and start seed in standard potting mix or bonsai soil.  Grow in fertile well drained soil. place in full sun to part shade. Hardy outdoors  from zone 6 and above. Germination can be sporadic so patience is required.

Mexican Yellow Pine

Pinus Patula - A slender, gracefull tree with hanging leaves that can grow to12" long making this visual tree truly unique.  The needles hang in a grass-green color accented by reddish bark and grows cones to 4 1/2."  It can often develop multiple trunks making it a very striking specimen plant for bonsai culture.   Native to Mexico.  Can grow to 50 feet for normal use. 

Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
Stratification: cold stratify for 60 days Our seed is ready to go.
Germination: sow seed 1/8" deep
