 Acacia baileyana 

Silver Mimosa   

You'll love this plant with fern-like silvery-blue leaves and fluffy bright yellow flowers that gather in splashes of color. This is a fast grower!  Grown easily and very successfully in pots as a houseplant. Flowers brighten up the winter months with yellow fluffy balls that emanate a delightful perfume. Can be grown outdoors in zones 10-11

Acacia decurrens 

Green Wattle

An evergreen with dark fern-like leaves.  Produces round, deep yellow flower heads about ¼” across.  This plant originates in New South Whales. Grows outdoors in zones 10-11 otherwise grow as a beautiful houseplant.

Acacia mangium 

Mange Tree  or Forest Mangrove  

From the tropical rainforests of Australia, this beautiful acacia is grown as an ornamental tree with spreading dark evergreen leaves.  Produces fluffy white flowers on long spikes. A multi-purpose tree that can be used as a tropical houseplant, bonsai specimen or grown outdoors as a standard where viable in zones 10-12.

Albizia guachapele

Chime Tree  

A beautiful tree with quiet, gentle foliage.  Clusters of yellow flowers bloom followed by fruit that resembles a bean and after it dries it hangs and rattles with the least amount of breeze.

Anacardium excelsum

Wild Rainforest Cashew

A beautiful tree with coarse, rose colored bark and graced by creamy white flowers that give way to a kidney shaped nut that is much like its relative the cashew.  However this seed should not be eaten.  Flowers bloom from February to April and accent the beautiful green leathery foliage. An excellent container plant for the rich tropical look and would also make a good bonsai specimen because of the coarse bark and aged trunk appearance. A hard to get seed and rare plant to have! $3.99 Item # rsd - 132 

 
 

Anacardium occidentale Cashew Nut  This is one of the most beautiful trees of the plant world.  The leaves are lush green with a slight hint of purple. The mildly scented flowers are a pink-yellow and the fruit it produces is the very popular nut. Imagine having this great conversation plant in your home!

Annona montana Wild Custard Apple -  A beautiful sub-tropical deciduous small tree with large and spreading branches and glossy, green drooping, aromatic leaves. Sweet fragrant flowers bloom light yellow with a trumpet shape followed by heart shapes fruit  that smells like pineapple and tastes like apricots.

Annona muricata

Soursop

also known as prickly custard apple.  Don't be fooled by the name! The fruits produced by this small tree are actually pleasant and sweet. One of the easiest to grow of the Annona family.  Evergreen leaves grow to about 6” long. Cool three-petaled, pale-yellow flowers bloom anywhere on the trunk or branches. Irregular fruits follow and are dark green with a soft pliable spine covering. They taste some what like a pineapple.   Hardy outdoors in zone 10-11.   Related to the custard apple.

Annona reticulata Custard Apple -  A beautiful sub-tropical deciduous small tree with large and spreading branches and green drooping leaves. Sweet fragrant flowers bloom light yellow with a trumpet shape followed by fruit with a heart-shaped and tastes like a mixture of apples and pears. Apeiba aspera  

Monkeys Comb 

A lovely ornamental to grow! Yellow, heavily scented flowers are followed by interesting fruits that resemble sea urchins about 2” in diameter. These black fruits are covered with soft, short spines. Folk lore has it that these spiny fruit pods are used by monkeys as a comb. Easily grown indoors in containers for non tropical climates if offered adequate light and warmth.

Averrhoa bilimbi

Pickle Tree

Often called a cucumber tree. Purple flowers cluster in a fantastic arrangement, followed by fruit that resembles a cucumber 2-4” long.  This plant bears flowers on the trunk as well as the branches. Foliage grows on a short trunk making this tree a really unique bonsai specimen! A fun plant to grow and enjoy for many years!

Averrhoa carambola

Star Fruit

This tree is beautiful with grassy green leaves. It blooms small purple flowers followed by oval five lobed fruit.  When the fruit is sliced crosswise the pieces resemble stars. Use the fruit fresh of in salads. A great plant for kids!  This plant is a relative of the pickle tree.  Can be grown outdoors in zones 10-11.  A naturally small tree, excellent for indoor growing. Imagine having this terrific conversational houseplant!

Bauhinia Alba Love Tree  - There's a story behind this tree. Bauhinia monandra  

Butterfly Flower 

Also known as Pink Orchid Tree or St. Thomas Tree and is a native to Burma. Unusual Butterfly shaped leaves split in two equal parts and represent the relationship of brothers. Beautiful pink flowers bloom to about 4” across and boom in March or April, followed by thick 9” seedpods.  Min temperature for outdoor growing is 47°F.  Zones 9b Otherwise grow as a greenhouse or tropical houseplant!

Purple Orchid Tree

also know as Purple butterfly tree - A beautiful small evergreen native to Asia.  The classic fragrance of the flowers put it at the top of many tropical plant enthusiasts wish list! Beautiful, purple orchid-like flowers bloom in the fall. Cultivated throughout the world as a tropical plant in the greenhouse as well as the home. Grown mainly for the lovely flowers.  Grown as a standard in zones 9A -11. The tree goes dormant for a couple months after flowering.  Grows upright.

Bixa orellana

Lipstick Tree

A popular small tropical tree with green jade leaves and clusters of pink flowers hanging in beauty. Heart-shaped fruit follows producing  the seeds that make an extract that is used as a coloring agent by the cosmetic and food industry.  Bixa is also made into body paint and used by some tropical Indian tribes. An outstanding unusual plant to grow!  Easy to grow!

Bombacopsis quinata  

Forest Passion

A wonderfully unique tree from Nicaragua and Columbia.  It grows with cork-like bark and large crown of branches making it a special tree for Bonsai cultivation.  The leaves are 6-7” long with a shiny green color and is deciduous from January – February.  Lovely flowers appear while the tree is leafless with a red-brown color on the outside and white inside followed by encapsulated fruit about 3” long that opens to expose soft gray wool with seeds.     Exotic!

Byrsonima crassifolia Nancy Girl - Nance Tree Also known Maricao cimun  A slow growing shrub or tree that can grow to 45 feet tall in its natural habitat. Forming a spreading, rounded top and compact trunk that often grows crooked making it a unique and perfect specimen for bonsai culture as well as a most interesting houseplant. Bronze flowers poke through Jade-tinted leaves followed by round yellow fruit that taste much like a chestnut. Nance trees are well known for the fruit that is sold in bottles in South America.
