Red Powder Puff  Calliandra calothyrsus  Looking for something new and exciting in the plant world? We're happy to offer you this extremely beautiful multi purpose plant. The leaves are thin and pointed with a silky texture. The plant becomes covered in gorgeous red powder puffs! Makes a perfect container tropical houseplant as well as terrific for use in Bonsai culture.

Sowing instructions:

  • Scarify the seed and soak in warm water for 24 hours

  • Sow seed 3/4” deep at a soil temperature of  61-64° F. and keep moist

  • Seed can be sown outdoors in the fall for spring germination

  • Sow in standard good draining potting mix

Plant Care:

  • Grow in a standard potting mix

  • Likes a deep, rich well fertilized soil

  • Keep moist and feed once a month

  • Transplant when large enough to handle into pots

  •  Keep humid if in dry conditions by occasional misting

Pink Powder Puff   calliandra inaequilatera  Very similar to Red Powder Puff  calliandra calothyrus.  This is the beginning of the bloom and by the next day you have the below picture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The blooms are short lived, but the plant produces them in profuse numbers at maturity.  The day after this picture was shot the bloom was gone.  But notice the new bud behind it coming on.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The brownish leaves are new. They then turn to the darker green.
