Macadamia

 

  Macadamia integrifolia    Each pack has 5 large seeds.  Beautiful  foliage is very similar to holly but the leaves are a little longer and more misshapen.  Grown mainly for the high value of nuts but the tree will make a super specimen for Bonsai and an interesting landscape tree outdoors and a very unique one of a kind indoor specimen. The hard seed coat must be filed before planting.   Plant the seed on its side.

Fun Facts:

  • Native to Australia
  • Flower color ranges from white to cream in and cream to beige
  • William Purvis introduced the first macadamias into Hawaii in 1881
  • Frost danger is at 27 degrees F
  • Makes an excellent plant for collectors of plants for the home or greenhouse environment
  • Grown for the beautiful leaf shape and color.  
  • Makes an excellent specimen for Bonsai Culture

  • Another fun plant from seeds of the Rainforest 

How to plant a seed:

  • Nick the outer coat of the seed and soak for 24 -48 hours

  • Plant the seed on its side

  • Place the seed 1/2 inch below the soil

  • Potting soil is best with a little sand 

  • Macadamia seedlings love heat and moisture

  • Plant in an area where the soil temperature will be around 80 degrees F

  • Keep the soil moist

  • Do not fertilize for about 6 months
