   Physalis peruviana -Also known as cape gooseberry- Much like Chinese Lantern, this plant is native to the Andes region and is a very unique and unusual relative of the tomato and potato.  Grown for its colorful husks and small fruit.  Small bell shaped  flowers are followed by edible fruits enclosed in a papery husk that turn orange-red and sometimes even purple when ripe. Grow as a perennial in frost free area or as an annual elsewhere.

Sow seed in containers in spring just as you would a tomato. Grow in well drained soil in full sun. This plant can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. Fruits can be eaten fresh or in salads or made into jams.  Item # Rsd-126  50+seeds
