How do the best designers get their garden ideas? You see some designs that make such magnificent use of space and nature that it astounds. If you are planning to design and create your own piece of paradise, you will need a plan, you will need an idea. This is usually born out of restriction. You will have limited space. Or maybe you will have an area that already has a 30-year-old tree firmly in root and you have not got the heart to uproot it. Well, instead of uprooting the tree, make it the heart of your design.
Work with your restrictions for your garden ideas. Imagination without limitation does not commonly produce results. Great artists have noted that the majority of work they produce was born out of limitation: deadlines, commitments, anxiety. Use what you already have in your garden. Look at the tree carefully. Look at where the shade from the branches falls. Do you want to place a seating area in the shaded area, so that you will be cool in the midday sun?
Look at the shape and color of the tree as well. You can use the circular base as a starting point for other circular installations such as a circular patch of grass or a circular pond, with a cobbled path leading between the features. Stunning, simple and effective and all it took was that one jolt of inspiration to make it happen.
