Flowering Banana

  Musa Ornata -   A small banana plant native to S. E. Asia that grows to 9'.   The plant will stay smaller if grown as a container specimen for cooler climates. 

Nice lavender inflorescence opening to yellow -orange flowers that yield to yellow non edible fruits when ripe but the flowers must be hand pollinated for the full development.  Leaves are narrow and oblong up to 2m long.

Hardy outdoors in zones 9-12.  Start Seed in standard potting mix at 70-75° F, and grow in full sun with shade from hot direct burning sunlight.  Water freely and fertilize once a month. Min temperature 45° F.    Item # rsd-121
