European White Birch

  Betula  pendula -  A narrow tree with peeling white bark, much like that pictured, and grows creviced over time giving the tree an ancient look.  Likes colder weather.

 Often grown as a specimen plant at estates, golf courses and homes as well as ornamental use.   Because of the unique bark form this tree can be used in bonsai culture if given the required pruning.  Grow in zones 4-9

Sowing instructions:

  • Soak the seed in warm water for 24 hours

  • Provide bottom heat and light for faster germination

  • Sow seed 1/4” deep at a soil temperature of at least 60-70° F and keep moist

  • Sow in standard good draining potting mix

Plant Care:

  • Grow in a standard potting mix

  • Keep moist and feed once a month

  • Transplant when large enough to handle into pots

  • Keep humid if in dry conditions by occasional misting

  • Water sparingly through dormancy or winter months
