Chicle Tree - Sapodilla

Manilkara zapota An evergreen tree from tropical Mexico and Central America with glossy dark green leaves about 4” long. The tree yields the common, milky-white latex used to make of chewing gum. It can be tapped every other year and was used by the Mayans for gum. It blooms white flowers followed by a brownish fruit about 2-4.”

Seeds germinate easily, but the seedlings are very slow growing, which makes it the perfect exotic plant to have in the home.  Sow seed in standard potting mix, grow in full light and feed once a month. Keep well drained with a little lime in the soil.   Item # rsd - 95
