Cucumis melo An early producing cantaloupe popular  in home gardens for over 80 years! Really thick salmon -orange flesh gets sweeter in hot, dry conditions. The aromatic melons weigh in at 3-5 pounds with a small seed cavity. In addition to being an all time favorite it's distinctive sweet flavor makes this melon one of the very best!  Large fruits are deeply ribbed and netted. Harvest in 85 days.

Sowing instructions: Sow seed directly in standard good draining potting mix indoors 3 weeks before planting outside.   Germination results in 5-10 days at a soil temperature of 70 - 85 degrees F.  Soil temperature should be at least 65 degrees F if planting outdoors.

Plant Care: For the biggest yields place plants in raised composted beds.  Water regularly.    

Growing Tips:

  • Keep plants well watered
  • If space is limited grow on a trellis or fence
  • Maximize production by harvesting fruits regularly
  • Seed can be sown indoors 3 weeks before last frost date
  • Sow outdoors after last frost and when soil temperature reaches at least 65°
