Instructions for bulb vase planter:

Warm up your winter by forcing your favorite bulb!  You can use most any bulb. Tulips, crocus and Hyacinths are the most popular.  Here are some general guidelines that should be applied to any bulb-forcing project.

·         Make sure you have conditioned the bulb.  This means that the bulb needs to be kept in a moist, cool place, with a temperature of 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 4-6 weeks. . We have found that as little as 1-2 weeks often works especially if it is early in the year and there is not much winter left.  A cool basement or cellar works great.  A refrigerator can also work, as long as you are not storing fruit in it.  (The fruit produces a gas that will destroy  your bulb) you can sometimes buy preconditioned bulbs.  If one is included with your vase, it is ready to go.

·         When your bulb is ready, fill your vase to the top.

·         Place your bulb, with the wide end down, into the vase, so that the bottom touches the water.

·         That’s it!  As soon as two weeks your bulb will sprout roots first and then go on to shoot up a green stalk.  When you see this, it won’t be long until your bulb bursts forth in color.

·         You may need to change the water once a week to prevent a build-up of bacteria.  Remember to use only luke-warm water.

·         Enjoy your spring color in winter!
