Datura and Brugmansia

Brugmansia are better known as the beautiful Angels Trumpet.  The evergreen shrubs are grown for the large trumpet shaped flowers that bloom from spring to autumn. Must be grown as a houseplant or greenhouse plant if not in zones 9 or higher.  Not to be confused with Datura whose flowers grow upright, Brugmansia flowers hang down. Perfect for deck gardens, they will add a touch of the tropics to your living space.   Water freely and feed every 3-4 weeks.  Grow in well-drained fertile soil in full sun. Brugmansia seeds germinate sporadic and may spread over several months.

  Angel’s Trumpet  - Brugmansia Arborea ~  A very robust and somewhat drought tolerant variety.   Green- velvety leaves and beautiful creamy white flowers bloom to  4 ½ -6 ½” long. Fragrant flowers are produced continually. Native of Ecuador and Northern Chile.  Sow seed at 61° F in standard potting mix,  water freely during growing season and  moderately during  winter months, but don’t let dry out.  Feed every  3 to 4 weeks. All parts of this plant are toxic.

  Angel’s Trumpet  Brugmansia  Saveolens- A vigorous shrub with narrow elliptic leaves.  Tubular bell-shaped flowers grow to 9 ½ -13 inches. Fragrant at night, the flowers are produced in 2-4 week phases followed by new growth of flower buds. A perfect variety for greenhouse growing! Tooth shaped, green- velvety leaves and beautiful fragrant flowers are produced continually.   Sow seed at 61° F in  standard potting mix, water freely during growing season and  moderately during  winter months, but don’t let dry out.  Feed every 3 to 4 weeks.
