Star Fruit 

Averrhoa carambola This tree is beautiful with grassy green leaves. It blooms small purple flowers followed by oval five lobed fruit.  When the fruit is sliced crosswise the pieces resemble stars. Use the fruit fresh or in salads. A great plant for kids!  This plant is a relative of the pickle tree. Can be grown outdoors as a standard in zones 10-11.  A naturally small tree, excellent for indoor growing. Imagine having this terrific conversational houseplant! ! !

Sowing instructions:

  • Soak the seed in warm water for 24 hours

  • Sow seed 1/4” deep at a soil temperature of at least 70° F and keep moist

  • Sow in standard good draining potting mix

Plant Care:

  • Grow in a standard potting mix

  • Likes a deep, rich acidic, well fertilized soil

  • Keep moist and feed once a month

  • Transplant when large enough to handle into pots

  • Keep humid if in dry conditions by occasional misting

  • Water sparingly through dormancy or winter months

  • Do not allow to reach temperatures below 45° F
